KPA had commissioned a design which proved to be particularly conservative, meaning that the project was not economically viable.

SMC approached KPA and offered to collaborate in design and development of an optimised construction methodology as well as alternative project concepts and costings. KPA engaged SMC for the study which ultimately led to KPA calling tenders based on the revised criteria.

SMC’s tender, with structural design by AW Maritime, was accepted on the basis of costs that met KPA’s budget and minimised disruptions to Port operations.
