SMC provided an alternative, innovative and durable prefabricated modular Aluminium solution to a conventionally-designed bridge for Northern Beaches Council.

01. Role

The project involved development, engineering, design and construction of a 4m wide, 110-metre long, 50-year design life pedestrian and cycle bridge over the Narrabeen Lagoon. The new pedestrian and cycle bridge is situated adjacent to the vehicle bridge and works included engineering, supply & installation of:

Dual steel piles with HDPE sleeves;
Structural aluminium headstocks;
14 spans of prefabricated, preassembled structural aluminium bridge deck modules
Panelised painted steel balustrading;
Stainless steel handrailing
Piled sandstone block abutments;
Concrete pathways and transitions and concrete pathway
Removal and rehabilitation of existing footpaths and transitions
Significant landscape and bank remediation works
