“Infrastructure NSW’s New Sydney Fish Market project where, in addition to having installed more than 500 piles stand-alone steel piles ranging from 600-1350mm diameter, we were also asked to take over & complete the early works pile extraction & demolition contract works from one of our competitors (who were unable to complete the task).”

Our Approaches

  • Living seawall made up of ~300 x sea tiles
  • 40x hanging fish habitats from basement structure
  • 45x benthic fish habitats deployed around the basement on the seabed
  • 450m3 underwater rock rubble reef
  • Plastic and microplastic pollution:
  • Installation and monitoring of 8 x Seabins around the construction site. Capturing floating debris and filtering water: https://seabin.io/home
  • SMC recycled over 650 tonne of steel pipe that was returned to use as steel reinforcement at Infrabuild’s Western Sydney Reinforcement Plant. The remainder of steel piles were sent to Bluescope’s facility at Port Kembla for steel recycling.
  • An additional 24 tons of steel pile offcuts were removed from the structural basement steel piles and were reused in the DPI Fisheries Forster and Terrigal Offshore Artificial Reefs, providing additional fish habitat and ensure that the Reefs are stable during large storms (see left)
  • The use of full depth silt curtain to the perimeter of the project encapsulates any turbidity or slicks from within the site
  • Imported and placed 80,000 tonne of clean sand on existing depauperate seabed to encourage biodiversity
